Klenk's Epoxy tint??
Can I tint the Epoxy enamel slightly with reg paint tint??
Also just before the epoxy sets on the second coat can I run over it with a roller to get more of a matte finish or will it compromise the adhesion?
Thanks very much

RE: Klenk's Epoxy tint??
Dennis,
You can use universal paint colours to tint to a very pale colour. Adding too much tint will compromise the epoxy system. We offer a service whereby we will match any colour using our epoxy colourants. You can order any colour through your local paint or hardware store.

I would not recommend going over the surface with a roller as this can cause the paint to peel back from the surface. It will also produce an orange peel effect as opposed to smooth finish.

If you desire a matte finish, the prefered method is to wait 5 days (or longer) for the epoxy to cure and buff the surface with extra fine steel wool or sandpaper.

RE: Klenk's Epoxy tint??
Hi Mark,
Thanks for your quick reply. With regards to the tint, I just want to change the almond shade slightly by adding some black to produce a taupe colour. Are you saying someone at a hardware store will do this for me?
Would it be ok to apply the epoxy with a roller. I'm fine with an orange peel texture.
Thanks again.

RE: Klenk's Epoxy tint??
I have heard that people at hardware stores add a small amount of tint to Klenk's Epoxy. I do not know if your store will do it for you or if it will work because it is not an epoxy colourant. You can have the store send a colour chip to us and we will match it for you using our epoxy tints.
You can apply Klenk's Epoxy with a short nap roller.

Hi Mark
Could you direct me to a store that carries the epoxy so I can have them send a paint chip or could I send it directly. Our HomeHardware did'nt have it.

RE: Klenk's Epoxy tint??
I am surprised that the Home Hardware does not carry it. Most of them do.
You can also check at Cashway, Pro, YHD, Color Your World, Glidden, or Home Depot.
You can send it yourself if you like. You must include a check or credit card to cover the cost of the tinted product ($60) plus shipping. It will probably be less expensive to have it done through a store.

RE: Klenk's Epoxy tint??
If all the conditions are met (low humidity, temperature above 22C, good ventillation) you can apply a second coat after a minimum of 2 hours. If these conditions are not met, it is best to place the remaining mixed paint in the freezer and apply the second coat the following day.

RE: Klenk's Epoxy tint??
Hi Mark:
You do such a good job answering questions. I have a first coat of white epoxy on my shower floor with good results now that we solved the fish eye problem. I need to add some dark (black) to paint for a second coat. Time does not permit me to send you a sample. Can you tell me what kind of paint to buy to make the tint? Thank you.

I would like to get some epoxy tinted. How do I go about ordering a specific tiny? And how long would shipping take?

I am sorry, but special order colours are not available at this time.
Pastel colours can be tinted at the store where you purchase your paint.

Re: Klenk's Epoxy tint??
Hi there,

I’m calling around but having trouble to find a hardware store that will do the tinting. Do you know if there any Rona or Ace in Montreal that will still do it?

What colour are you looking to obtain?

Re: Klenk's Epoxy tint??
Hi Mark, I’m looking for something a bit darker than the standard white, towards a light grey. Something like these:

https://www.behr.com/consumer/ColorDetailView/PR-W10/

Doesn’t need to be exact. I have near-white tiles, just want to avoid a perfectly white tub making the tiles look off

Re: Klenk's Epoxy tint??
For that colour, you would simply have the store do the same tinting as they would do for any other paint that is not water-based.

Re: Klenk's Epoxy tint??
Maybe it was a misunderstanding? Both Rona (Bois ideal on St-Laurent) and Ace (Azores on St-Laurent) said they didn’t know how to tint it

Maybe I can relay the details of how tinting it works?

Re: Klenk's Epoxy tint??
The paint can be tinted just like any other paint using their universal colourants.

Re: Klenk's Epoxy tint??
Thanks Mark, I really appreciate the help. Does it matter whether they tint part A or B? Or no difference?

Re: Klenk's Epoxy tint??
There is more room in the Part A container, so that would likely work best.

Re: Klenk's Epoxy tint??
A bit off topic, I noticed there are two epoxy products from swing paints. Is there any difference between the green box labelled “Swiss Formula ACR”, and the yellow box labelled “Klenks”?

2nd coat reaction
Hi,

I painted tile with your epoxy yesterday. I put the leftover paint in the freezer. I let it sit on the counter for 2 hours before 2nd coat. Now that I've painted a light coat, it has reacted with the first and caused orange peel/blistering. Why?

Re: Klenk's Epoxy tint??
If the measuring and mixing were done correctly, the reaction you are having is between the first coat and substrate, as the first coat did no dry properly.
If would probably be best to go over your procedure in detail, either on the forum or by telephone.
