Soft-strip on gelcoatMessage: Hi: I want to remove several layer of antifoul paint as well as an unknown base on my sailboat to bring it back to gelcoat. I thought of using Soft-strip. Do you have any advice as far as compatibility, risk to gelcoat etc.. I first searched the forum without results. Also, any comments about Soft-Strip's impact on environment? thanks |

RE: Soft-strip on gelcoat Message: Since gel coat can be produced using different components, you cannot say with 100% certainty that Circa 1850 Soft Strip will remove the anti-fouling paint and have no affect on the gel coat. However, gel coats are generally very chemical resistant. Therefore, if you apply Circa 1850 Soft Strip and remove the finish as soon as the final base coat is softened, you should not have any adverse softening of the gel coat. Circa 1850 Soft Strip is biodegradable. However, since your anti-fouling paint contains heavy metals, you should dispose of the paint residue at your local hazardous waste site. |

RE: Soft-strip on gelcoat Message: Any news or results from using a stripper on gel coat? I'm preparing to do so this spring (2011) and will be needing a large quantity of sripper as the boat is 40 feet long. I would appreciate getting suggestions. |
