Subject: durability of stain 'n varnish

Message:
Hi - Thanks for the great forum! I have cherry kitchen cabinets in a "pickled" stain with what the mfr calls a "porcelain" glaze(they look pale pink- yikes!)

The cabinet mfr ((Berch Legacy Series) website says "a high-solid, catalyzed, conversion varnish, is the final protective coating."

Will your stain 'n varnish product work on top of this kind of finish?

Is the stain 'n varnish product durable enough for hard-use on kitchen cabinets?

For extra durability should I put a coat of something clear on top? If so which of your products would that be?

I have never refinished anything before - can a novice use your product & get good results?

Last Q: What technique should be used to get the most even color over a large area like cabinets?

Many thanks!

Circa 1850 Stain'n Varnish will adhere to practically any surface, incuding wood, metal, plastic, clay. It can be applied over any finish, with the exception of wax. All surfaces must be clean and should be dulled with sandpaper.

Circa 1850 Stain'n Varnish is made with a modified urethane resin that is resistant to water, alcohol and heat. It is the ideal finish for kitchen cabinets. No topcoat is required, but you may put on a good quality oil-based varnish if you want a different sheen.

You should practice using this product on a test piece to get the "technique" of applying this product to large surfaces. Most people use a rag to apply the finish, although some prefer to apply it with a foam brush. Adding a small amount of mineral spirits to Stain'n Varnish (in a separate container) will decrease the tackiness and increase the working time.
