Outdoor furnitureMessage: Hi, Thank you for sharing your knowledge through this great forum. I have some outdoor furniture made from Indonesian Balau hardwood. I have to leave them outside 12 months of the year, even through all the winter rain. I like the oiled finish. Will your Teak and Tung oil work for me, even though it states that it provides only moderate protection against water? |

RE: Outdoor furniture Message: Yes - Circa 1850 Tung'n Teak Oil would work for you. You may have to reapply a thin coat with a cloth every 6 months or year. |

RE: Outdoor furniture Message: I put on a coating today, and the wood looks much better, although the Tung and teak oil does not have great coverage. The wood drinks it up and I used more than I thought I would. Last spring I put on the Teak oil supplied by Dynamic and your oil is very different. Your oil seems to soak in and harden in the wood more. The Dynamic Oil is what Rona recommended for their outdoor furniture, and was the only teak oil product available in their outdoor furniture care section. My local Dunbar Lumber, Home Hardware on Dunbar and Home Hardware on 10th Ave only carry the 500ml size. It would be better if they carried the larger sizes, cheaper for me hopefully. |

RE: Outdoor furniture Message: Unfortunately, the Dynamic Oil that you purchased is not the best product for your use. It is not specifically designed for exterior use. Circa 1850 Tung'n Teak Oil is a unique combination of oils that is designed to penetrate into the wood and harden within. It is not formulated to produce a thick surface finish, therefore eliminating the possibility of peeling or cracking over time. The first coat, or two, of this product will penetrate into the teak furniture. The drier the wood, the more oil that it will require. You can expect the first coat to cover approx. 50 sq. ft. for the 500mL can that you purchased. After the first coat or two, the surface coverage will increase to approx. 100 sq ft. per 500mL can. Since Circa 1850 Tung'n Teak Oil will not produce a surface film, and you intend to keep the furniture outdoors all year round, you should clean and re-oil the furniture once or twice a year. You can clean with soapy water or Circa 1850 Furniture Cleaner, depending on the condition of the furniture. After the surface is dry, wipe on another coat of Tung'n Teak Oil. Larger sizes are available through your local Home Hardware store, but only as a special order for them. Rona carries the 1L container. You can ask them for Rona SKU 07765013 (Revy SKU 028012405). There are also some stores in your area that carry the 3.78L container. If you are interested, please let me know and I can locate them for you. |

RE: Outdoor furniture Message: Thanks for your answer. I think i will stay with the 1 litre size as the 3.78l would probably get stale before I could finish it. A high quality product with great support that is Made in Canada. I am happy that I found it. |
