Subject: hardwood floors

Message:
I have purchased an older home that has hardwood floor''s. I want to refinish them but have been told that it will be impossible because there is evidence of animal urine. Is it possible to clean, sand, and varnish floor''s like this without having dark discoloration or spots. I would appreciate any help some one can give me.

IF THE DAMAGE IS IN THE FINISH.... THEN YOU CAN REMOVE OLD FINISH AND REFINISH.

IF THE WOOD HAS BEEN DISCOLOURED YOU MAY TRY TO SAND OUT STAINS. YOUR SECOND OPTION IS TO USE WOOD BLEACH.

GOOD LUCK

I am installing a new southern yellow pine T&G floor in my cabin in Maine. I am interested in finishing the floor with a strong/durable/high lustre finish. Why is your Bowling Alley poly better than Miniwax poly? How mnay coats of BA poly should I use? Do I have to sand after every coat? What grade sand paper/steel wool should I use? If I use your BA poly, how long do I wait before placing furniture on it?
Thanks
KJ

Circa 1850 Bowling Alley Polyurethane is far superior to any other finish on the market in terms of durability, scratch resistance, stain resitance and non-yellowing. New floors should be finished with 3 coats of Bowling Alley Polyurethane. Sanding between coats should be done with 000 steel wool or 200 grit sandpaper (or finer). Furniture can be replaced after 24 hours - wait 72 hours prior to heavy traffic.

House was built 40 years ago with oak flooring. Over time the boards have shrunk leaving small cracks between the boards. Is there a paint on filler to close the cracks before coating or will the application of the poly due the job. How do I proceed. Thanks.

The cracks are part of the natural beauty of the wood. There is really no easy way to fill them. Just apply the polyurethane to the floors and enjoy.
