Fluff on a stripped cedar doorMessage: Hello: I've stripped my front door and found out it was cedar. I'm sanding it now and have noticed a kind of fluff or hairy-ness on parts of the door. I keep sanding and sanding and it doesn't seem to dissipate. Should I keep sanding or can I go to the varnish/urethane step? Thanks for your help! |

RE: Fluff on a stripped cedar door Message: What did you use to strip the finish? Do you rinse the surface afterwards? What are you sanding with? |

RE: Fluff on a stripped cedar door Message: I used Super Remover: Paint, varnish & glue remover (gel formula); rinsed several times - it also go rained on because I''m working outside over the last two days. I''m sanding with an 80 at first and 100 for the rest. It only shows up on the part of the door where there was the most bubbling in the old finish. I think the door was finished/installed in the mid 1960''s. |

RE: Fluff on a stripped cedar door Message: Super Remover is not a very good remover for wood surfaces as it can damage the wood fibres. Sounds like this is the case here. You will have to keep sanding until no more fluff is present. |

RE: Fluff on a stripped cedar door Message: Ahhh. Thanks for letting me know about the quality of the remover, especially before I start on the desk later this summer. Used to use the Circa stuff when it was available at our local but I never see it anymore. I noticed on another post that it's probably at a Rona / Cashway. I'll look for those stores next time I purchase stripper. Back to sanding. |

RE: Fluff on a stripped cedar door Message: Rona/Cashway & Home Hardware always have Circa 1850 in stock. Circa 1850 Furniture Stripper required no afterwash or neutralizing. It will not raise the grain of the wood or hard glue points. |
